With Kol landmarks as central theme, Durga Puja comes alive in Mumbai, Hyd, Noida
Kolkata: Durga Puja organisers in different Indian cities have recreated several Kolkata landmarks as their central themes this year.
Bengali Association for Residents of Sarjapur and HSR Layout Area (BARSHA) in Bengaluru has recreated the Victoria Memorial. The pandal features carvings, domes, and pillars, capturing the essence of the monument’s grandeur. “The choice of Victoria Memorial as the theme this year is not just a celebration of architectural beauty but also a tribute to India’s diverse history,” said Priyanka Sinha Roy, joint secretary of BARSHA.
Prabashi Socio Cultural Association Durgotsab at Nizampet in Hyderabad has recreated Kolkata’s famous Dacres Lane. “Dacres Lane has a diversity of cuisines which we wanted to bring to Hyderabad. We have flown down 12 chefs who can prepare authentic dishes of various cuisines,” said Anirban Guha, general secretary of the association.
Thakur Village Bengali Association in Kandivali East in Mumbai has recreated Jorasanko Thakurbari. “Traditional chhau dancers and baul singers are travelling from Bengal to perform in our pandal. This will be accompanied by a puppet show,” said Chinmoy Roy, president of the association.
Navi Mumbai Bengali Association (NMBA) in Vashi has Peace as the central theme this year. “The 18-ft idol has been created by artisans from Bengal, who were specially invited by NMBA Vashi,” said Ashim Dey, member of NMBA. The puja will be held at the fully air-conditioned CIDCO Exhibition Centre.

Latouche Road Puja Sangsad Society marks its 83rd year with a Ramlila-themed Durga Puja pandal, highlighting Unesco's intangible cultural heritage. The event, featuring 20ft tall replicas of heritage buildings and performances, runs from Oct 8-13. The preparations, led by Kaushik from Kolkata, started in July 2024, emphasizing dramatic performances inspired by the Ramayana.
